The student body charges a contribution, the semester contribution, from its members, the enrolled students and doctoral students, to fulfil its statutory duties. From 1 October 2024, the semester fee will be divided into two parts:

  • student body fee and
  • semester ticket contribution.

The student body semester contribution totals 191.40 euros.

Student Body Contribution

The student body contribution of 15.00 euros per member remains with the student body to fulfil its tasks. Of this money, 2.00 euros are budgeted for student sports by court ruling. Any unspent money for student sport goes to university sport at the end of the year.

The following persons are exempt from paying the student body fee:

  • guest students,
  • secondary students,
  • students and doctoral students who fall under the provisions of Section 67 (4) sentences 1 and 2 of the HochSchG, in particular those who can prove that they are already subject to a contribution obligation within the framework of university alliances and cooperations at a cooperating university of the RPTU, and
  • persons who are enrolled as early students.

Semester Ticket Contribution

The semester ticket contribuition of 176.40 euros per member is paid in full to the Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Neckar (VRN) for the Deutschland-Semesterticket. The ticket price corresponds to 60 per cent of the monthly price for the Deutschlandticket (49 euros). Price changes to the Deutschlandticket affect the Deutschland-Semesterticket contribution.

The following are not entitled to the Deutschland-Semesterticket

  • guest students,
  • secondary students who are entitled to a Deutschland-Semesterticket at their home university,
  • distance learning students and
  • persons who are enrolled as early students.

Accordingly, these persons are exempt from paying the semester ticket contribution.

The following persons can be exempted from the obligation to purchase and may receive a refund:

  • disabled students and doctoral students who are entitled to transport in accordance with SGB IX and can prove that they are in possession of the supplementary sheet to their severely disabled person's pass and the corresponding token,
  • students and doctoral students on leave of absence for the respective semester of leave,
  • students and doctoral students who can prove that they are spending a semester abroad for a minimum period of three months in the semester in which they are required to take leave,
  • students and doctoral students who can prove that they are studying or doing their doctorate at RPTU for less than three months in the semester for which they are required to take leave,
  • students and doctoral students who can prove that they are in receipt of a network ticket at another university in Germany,
  • students and doctoral students who fall under the provisions of Section 67 (4) sentences 1 and 2 of the HochSchG, in particular within the framework of university alliances and cooperations, provided that the cooperation agreement contains an exemption from purchasing a semester ticket.

In the event of an exemption and contribution refund, the right to purchase and use the Deutschland-Semesterticket automatically ends or expires.

Refund of the Semester Contribution in the event of Exmatriculation

A refund of the semester contribution is only possible if an application for exmatriculation and an application for a refund of the semester contribution are received by the Student Service Centre (SSC) in writing or by e-mail via the RPTU account by the last day of the first month of the semester (30 April or September; cut-off period).
