We chop up rescued food and cook a meal together! - Registration below.

78 kg of food is thrown away per person and year in private households in Germany [1]. Of this, 34% consists of fruit and vegetables alone, 14% of bread and baked goods and 7% of ready-prepared food. Along with the food itself, other resources such as water, labor and fuel for transport are also lost. For example, the production of 1 kg of apples requires 820 liters of water and 250 g of CO2 equivalents, 1 kg of tomatoes 214 liters of water and 770 g of CO2 equivalents or 1 kg of roasted coffee 18,900 liters of water and 470 g of CO2 equivalents.

The main reasons for food waste are losing track of stocks, buying too much food, exceeding the best-before date or not using leftovers and incorrect storage. This is exactly the problem we want to tackle with you and turn saved food into a delicious meal!

On June 12, 2024 at 5 p.m., we want to cook a dinner together from rescued food in cooperation with foodsharing Kaiserslautern. The challenge? We don't know in advance what food we will be using, so improvisation and team spirit are required! In addition, foodsharing will give a short keynote speech (in English) on the topic at the beginning.
